Matthews Manifesto Tracker

I made a promise to ensure I keep students updated with what I am working on during my time in the office on because I believe in transparency. Below is my manifesto tracker. As you know, 12 months can be a brief time to complete things, but it is a platform for me to initiate action plans and measure impacts. My other activities will be shared in subsequent posts.

ENHANCE EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION

Work done so far  

  • Started a blog to keep students up to date with what I am currently working on, progress report, achievements, and feedbacks.  
  • Hosted Programme Rep forums to discuss the issues students are facing and shared the actions taken to resolve them.

In Progress  

  • Share on my blog updates from Programme Reps and the work the University is doing that impacts students.  
  • Respond to students emails within 48 – 72hours.  
  • Speak with the University to enhance the access to information about the support available to students.   
  • Recruiting Programme Reps for January Intake
TO WORK WITH THE ACADEMIC TEAM TO IMPROVE THE QUALITY OF STUDENTS' ACADEMIC EXPERIENCE  

Work done so far  

  • Joined the Curriculum Enhancement framework team to enhance the curriculum across the three schools, by sharing best practices 

  • Joined the Decolonising the Curriculum team in the University.   

  •  Attending University Committees (Academic Board, Learning, Teaching, Assessment & Student Experience Committee -LTASEC, Quality and Standards Committee - QSC, Collaborative Provision Committee - CPC).  

  • Raised awareness of Academic Integrity and shared the resources and support available to students.

In Progress  

  • Decolonising the Curriculum: Work with Academic team and DLTE (Department of Learning and teaching Enhancement) staff on the approach on decolonising the curriculum through courses taught in Napier.   

  • Working with DLTE to promote Academic Skills supports to reduce Academic Misconduct cases.

TO INCREASE EMPLOYABILITY SKILLS AND CAREER DEVELOPMENT CAMPAIGNS.  

Work done so far  

  • Working with Student Futures to promote campaigns, the support available to students and employability skills resources.

  • Working with Bright Red Triangle (BRT) team to promote the support they have for students and exploring their partners to speak to students on their experience and share best practices or employability skills.

In Progress  

  • Continue to promote student futures resources, events, and support services 

  • Promote more vacancies roles for Graduate, Internships and Placement. 

IMPROVE STUDENTS’ EMPLOYABILITY SKILLS THROUGH WORK-BASED EXPERIENCE, PAID PLACEMENT / INTERNSHIPS  

Work done so far  

  • Met with the Principal to discuss increasing partnerships with businesses to ensure more opportunities available to students for work-base experience.  

  • Discussed with Programme Leaders to incorporate work-base learnings in their programme.  

In Progress  

  • In discussion with the University to develop more paid opportunities for students and introduce more work-based learning to the programmes through placement and internships.  

  • Promote Students Future resources that can assist students prepare for interviews.
