Ryan Cairns, one of ENSA's Full-Time Officers, gives an update on what's been happening with ENSA Sports
It’s been a week full of achievements, celebrations, and exciting updates at ENSA, including hitting our goal of £5000 for Movember! Now we are aiming to beat last year’s total of £5766!
Here’s are my 5 Things For A Friday - Sports President Edition:
1. Napier Ceilidh Success
Over 150 students attended the Napier Ceilidh, dancing the night away in their stunning outfits. A raffle held during the event raised funds for the Sports and Societies Development Fund, supporting future activities. Thank you to everyone who participated!
2. Development Fund Boost
Over £1,700 has been allocated to sports clubs to enhance their offerings and development. Here are some highlights:
- Archery purchasing a new bow allowing them to compete in new competitions and offer different styles at their trainings.
- American Football investing in flag football equipment and coaching courses, introducing a non-contact version for students.
- Tennis hiring a coach to support beginners, enhancing skill-building and member retention.
These funds directly support club growth and opportunities for all students, let’s keep the amazing work coming!
3. Festive Season Kick off
The festive season begins next week with ENSA's Tree Lighting Fest across the three campuses on Monday 25 Nov! December is also packed with activities, including Sports and Societies’ Christmas Dinners, Balls, and festive arts and crafts to get everyone in the holiday spirit. Check them all out here!
4. Cup Week Triumphs
This week was all about the Cup matches, with some fantastic results:
- Basketball Women’s, Football Men’s and Women’s, all secured wins this week’s joining our rugby team in the quarter finals! These will take place in Trimester 2.
- Badminton & Netball kick of their cup campaign this weekend. Good luck to both teams!
- Check out all our other fixtures and results here on our website.
5. Representing Napier
Over the next couple of weeks, I will be representing Edinburgh Napier University around the country at various meetings including the Scottish Student Sport Executive Meeting (Stirling), Sports Sabbatical Meeting (Napier), and BUCS Advisory down in Nottingham, ensuring our voice is heard in shaping sports at the national level.
This will also be useful in progressing our new Sports Committee here at Napier which aims to utilise the power that sport has to improve the student experience!
Additionally, I had the pleasure of meeting our incoming Principal, Sue Rigby, and I’m excited to see how we can collaborate to enhance the student experience at Napier. Looking forward to officially welcoming her in January!
That’s all for this week on my guest appearance on 5 Things For A Friday, hopefully you’ll see me here again soon. Have a great weekend!
