Tony Foster's weekly "5 Things for a Friday" update on what's been happening at ENSA
REMEMBER, REMEMBER THE 5TH OF NOVEMBER
Next week, from Tuesday 5th November to the end of the month we begin one of our biggest pieces of survey work ever undertaken. This is an opportunity for all students at Edinburgh Napier to tell us what you like about the University and things you feel can be improved. The survey is undertaken by IBP Strategy and Research, and you will get a copy of the results if you tick a box to request one. We will also share the results with the Edinburgh Napier Students’ Association Sabbaticals, Staff, Board and University Staff to help inform our future plans on your behalf. There is a cash prize to be won if you fill it in and please share it with your networks so we can hear from as many students as we can. Look out for ENSA's Great Big Student Voice Survey from Tuesday 5th November.
(it is, of course, Firework Night and you can see a fireworks display in Currie – details and ticket info here Discover Edinburgh )
GRADUATION WEEK
It’s been Graduation Week and ENSA President Evans Eghan celebrating your achievements at Edinburgh Napier University. He also graduated himself and picked up the programme’s University Medal, so was pretty busy. In the background he has been working with staff and students on the finishing touches to the Edinburgh Napier Student Film Festival. Keep watching the website next week for the final programme, which is looking fantastic.
ICYMI
If you missed this blog post from a couple of weeks ago have a read of Alice Boyd’s post here Blog: Edinburgh Napier University & SA on their Suicide Safer Plan - Think Positive
Alice works for our Advice Service, many of whom have been working on our new ENSA stalls around campus every lunchtime on Tuesday and Thursdays (along with other staff and students). This is us getting out of the office and giving you the opportunity to ask questions, wherever you are. If we don’t have the answer, we will try and find someone who can!
Don’t forget Co-President Ryan Cairns and the Sports and Societies team have also been championing Movember. Join in today!
STUDENT ENGAGEMENT
This week Chika Marvis (Co President Education and Employability), Catherine Jones (Student Engagement Team Lead), Daniel Wright (Head of Leadership and Development) and myself locked ourselves in a room, using SPARQS Student Engagement Framework as a starting point (find out more here). This was the first of several sessions in which we hope to engage more ENSA staff, University Staff and Student Reps to sense check what we do at the moment in engaging students (from academic representation to sports clubs to societies to events to advice).
Using the findings of the Great Big Edinburgh Napier Student Voice Survey, we hope to find out what works well, what doesn’t, is there something new we should be doing, is there something we should drop, how we can improve engagement and who should do it. It was useful to step back from the buzz of the office and I hope this ongoing piece of work will give us a better understanding of where support and engagement is during your student journey at the University.
ENSA / EUSA AGREEMENT
We have been keeping it under wraps since the summer but Edinburgh Napier Students’ Association and Edinburgh University Students’ Association have been working on a partnership that will benefit students in both institutions. This is a big deal as we start mutual co-operation for Edinburgh students across the city.
The partnership offers new opportunities to Napier students including:
- Access to all EUSA events at the same price as Edinburgh University students (including the Saturday Night Big Cheese at Potterrow, Bristo Square).
- A bar and club offering for students under 18.
- Napier clubs and societies and individual students can book EUSA spaces at the same price as Edinburgh students.
- Joint events for students from both universities.
- Additional Napier-only events added to our existing event offering hosted at EUSA venues.
