I’m Ryan, and I'm in my final year studying Sport and Exercise Science. I’ve captained the volleyball team for the last 2 years and led them to a league and cup double win. I’m also the volleyball president and have committed to inclusion in our sport within the University.
I have a passion for sport and want it to be accessible to all students regardless of their ability. Exercise is important for everyone’s physical and mental wellbeing, I believe we need to be inclusive and open. Having a disability, sport has been so important for me and it has greatly enhanced my experience of life.
Everyone should have access to partake in a sport regardless of their background or circumstances. My aims are to improve the inclusivity and diversity in sports and wellbeing at Napier, including but not limited to the LGBTQIA+ community, those suffering from a disability and all minorities. I also want to make sport more accessible for low-income students. Sport shouldn’t be restricted to class or income so I aim to remove barriers and make it open to all.
Being part of the amazing sports clubs at Napier has the potential to change the paths of so many people. Personally, I’ve spent the last 2 years working with vulnerable young people, which drives my passion to support these groups. I’ll use these skills in this role to make a positive impact.
If elected, I will work to increase the number of students that partake in sports clubs and help promote inclusivity amongst all clubs.
