Cyrenians aims to create a sustainable Social Enterprise that takes unwanted wood, tyres, and furniture to create new/upcycled products. We need creative volunteers to help us design new products and DIY volunteers to help us build them.
The programme is fully supported in terms of training and, importantly, finance and is open to young people aged 17-30. European Voluntary Service (EVS) is funded by the European Commission – and XChange Scotland has been sending volunteers on this programme since 2009.
Volunteers will carry out household tasks free of charge to people over the age of 60 or who have a disability. Our volunteers offer a Technical Handyperson Service providing a range of skills from, set up of TV/DVD/Freeview/Digital boxes, setting up printers, downloading skype, first line PC fixers, uploading photos from a camera, setting up telephone or voicemail.
From Mexico to Mongolia, there are around 2— diverse and exciting short term international volunteer projects to choose from. By working with organisations in amazing networks – the Alliance – we are able to send volunteers to over 50 countries worldwide on international volunteer projects abroad. These partnerships mean that volunteer costs are kept to a minimum and that the projects are locally-led and are what the communities really need… Interested???
Our Veg Bag social enterprise supplies customers who work in large office blocks with fresh vegetables from our farm. Our customer liaison volunteers will meet with our delivery driver on the same day each week, take the Veg Bags into the office and wait in the foyer until all customers have collected their orders, answering any questions they might have.
Food Sharing collects excess food from local businesses and re-distributes this food to the community. The team facilitator is the main point of contact for a particular business and organises the team of volunteers who collect and re-distribute the food.

The Royal Edinburgh Community Gardens is an NHS Lothian initiative with a mission to make opportunities for good food and healthy lifestyles available to the local community. This role will focus on helping lead some of the daily tasks that are needed at the Royal Edinburgh Hospital Community Gardens and helping with visitor groups. Tasks can include gardening, joinery, landscaping, garden design, cooking etc. Ideally half a day per week.
Food Sharing Edinburgh is an exciting new volunteer-led food waste reduction project. We collect food that would otherwise be binned, and distribute it to those who can use it!
The events coordinator is responsible for overseeing event(s) of their choice, with help from the Project Facilitator: from venue booking (where applicable) to sourcing food from our network and organising the volunteer schedule for the day.
Food Sharing has a good relationship with a variety of small businesses across Edinburgh, where we collect excess food daily. Tasks for the research assistant include researching best practice in food waste management across Scotland, selecting a set of organisations to be used as case studies, interviewing businesses and writing a practical guide with step-by-step instructions.
